I have entered feedback into the RogueScanner utility. There is no way, however, for me to know how this is ever going to get back to someone else.

All Internet traffic from our site goes through a Squid proxy. Is there a setting I can add to scanner.conf that will tell it to use the Proxy for communications?

On a related Note, is there any documentation on the scanner.conf file and what options are available?

Thanks!

The feedback does come back to a human at Paglo who reviews the corrections and updates the classification engine with them.

Have a look in the file named README in the same directory where RogueScanner was installed. It has documentation for all of the configuration options, including proxy configuration. There are more instructions on proxy configuration here.

BTW, if you are doing an inventory of the devices on your network you might want to try the Paglo Crawler. It uses the same classification technology as RogueScanner, but collects a lot more interesting data and makes it easier to browse. It also handles proxies automatically.

OK… RTFR… I knew that… :)

Apparently I am either lazy or illiterate (or way too used to useless READMEs).

I went back to the CONF file and it had already populated the proxy information… I know I didn’t do it, so it must have pulled the information from the browser config. or something… good job.

To speak to the crawler, I am already using Spiceworks and SteelInventory to do network inventory on the network on which I am currently testing.

I was particularly interested in the RogueScanner as it seems to scan real-time for devices being added to the network that fit the fingerprint of a Wifi AP.

I have several clients that have no full-time admin, and could use this to monitor for folks “trying to improve the network” without permission (or security).

I do like the idea of having multiple clients setup on Paglo, however, and being able to monitor them all from one location (as I read in another thread). That could come in handy, and I plan on evaluating it when I get some time away from this client site.

Thanks,
Michael
